Description
The artist will donate their share of the proceeds from the sale of this print to the Animals Asia Foundation. A beautiful oil painting of Simba, an Asiatic Black Bear, by British wildlife artist Rachel Stribbling. Simba was rescued by the Animals Asia Foundation from one of the barbaric bear bile farms that exist across Asia.
These Asiatic Black Bears are affectionately called Moon Bears, because of the yellow crescent moon found on the bear's chests. In countries across Asia, thousands of these bears live a life of torture on bear farms, so that their bile can be extracted and used in traditional medicine. They are confined in small cages, often these are so small that the bears aren't able to stand or move around, which causes terrible physical and mental suffering. At present, the Animals Asia Foundation have around 250 rescued bears at their sanctuaries in China and Vietnam and over the years they've rescued approx. 400 bears.
